Two Members Appointed Standing Counsel to the Comptroller-General

Chambers is delighted to announce that Katherine Moggridge and Stuart Baran have both been appointed, with the approval of HM Attorney General, as Standing Counsel to the Comptroller-General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks.

Katherine will take up her appointment in April 2027 for a three-year term. Stuart, who was first appointed to the role in October 2019, has been reappointed for an unprecedented further three-year term beginning on 10 October 2026.

Standing Counsel to the Comptroller represent the UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO) in litigation at all levels of the court system, advise the UKIPO on legal issues, and provide advice and representation to government departments on intellectual property matters.

Katherine and Stuart will continue to undertake their Standing Counsel work alongside their private practice, and both remain available as before for all types of intellectual property litigation and advisory work.
