Alcon, represented by Tom Hinchliffe QC, leading Kathryn Pickard and Jeremy Heald, was successful in their action against AMO.  The case related to machines for performing laser-assisted cataract surgery and in particular the steps of anterior capsulotomy and fragmentation of the lens.  In the judgment, Mr Justice Mellor, held that two of AMO’s patents were invalid for obviousness.
