Biography

Tanya Aplin is a Professor of Intellectual Property Law at the Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London. She is also a Global Distinguished Professor at Notre Dame Law School and has been an adjunct professor/visiting lecturer at Pepperdine School of Law, Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, Melbourne Law School, Turin Law School, Paris II, College de droit and University of Lyon III.

Prof. Aplin serves on the Editorial Board for the Modern Law Review, Current Legal Problems and the Queen Mary Journal of Intellectual Property and is General Editor for the Information Law and Regulation series published by Hart. She is also an Overseas Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law.

Some of Prof. Aplin’s publications include: Intellectual Property: Patents, Copyright, Trade Marks and Allied Rights 10th ed (2023) (with Prof. Cornish and Prof. Llewelyn), Gurry on Breach of Confidence: The Protection of Confidential Information (OUP, 2012) (with Prof. Bently, Prof. Johnson and Mr Malynicz KC); Research Handbook on Intellectual Property and Digital Technologies (Elgar: 2020) and Global Mandatory Fair Use: The Nature and Scope of the Right to Quote Copyright Works (CUP 2020) (with Prof. Bently). Areas of interest

Prof. Aplin’s areas of teaching and research interest include international and comparative copyright law; copyright law and technological disruption (including, e.g. software, internet and AI); copyright exceptions; overlaps between patent and trade secrets; trade secret regulation and breach of confidence; information property; trade secrets, AI and the data economy and privacy protection.
