Dheemanth graduated from University College London (UCL) with an LLM in Intellectual Property law. Before his studies at UCL, Dheemanth trained and worked as a medical doctor. In addition to clinical experience, Dheemanth also has hands-on experience of lab-based work, having previously been engaged in research on layer-by-layer assembled microcapsules and targeted lipid nanoparticles for drug delivery, and having presented on the same at national and international conferences.

Prior to commencing pupillage, Dheemanth was the research assistant at the Institute of Brand and Innovation Law (IBIL) and to the Rt. Hon. Professor Sir Robin Jacob (former IP specialist Lord Justice of Appeal), assisting with both his academic and advisory work (October 2023 to September 2024). During this time, Dheemanth worked on a number of legal opinions with Sir Robin on complex patent disputes (mechanical and pharmaceutical), contentious trade mark and copyright matters, a contract law matter, and a matter relating to civil procedure and third-party access to court documents.

Shortly after starting as a tenant, Dheemanth worked as a judicial assistant for six months in the Patents Court (October 2025 to March 2026). Given the makeup of the cases heard during that period, Dheemanth’s focus was predominantly on assisting the Patents Court judges on (F)RAND matters and he has developed a keen interest in such litigation. He has had the opportunity to scrutinise multiple sets of pleadings concerning a wide variety of SSO standards and has worked on the full range of litigating such matters in the High Court, from application hearings (including jurisdiction challenges and interim licence hearings) to a full FRAND trial. CASES

Montres Breguet and Ors v. Samsung (awaiting decision): damages inquiry trial following trade mark infringement findings at the liability stage in [2022] EWHC 1127 (Ch) and [2023] EWCA Civ 1478.
Ali and Ors v. Mahmood and Ors: Unled. Amendment application and dispute over costs in a copyright and design rights infringement claim concerning interactive prayer mats at IPEC Small Claims.
Powell v. Sycous: Unled. Strike out application to dispose of a trade mark infringement claim at the Central London County Court.

HIGH COURT JUDICIAL ASSISTANT (October 2025 to March 2026)

Amazon v. InterDigital: ITU-T RAND. Worked on all aspects of this dispute during the above period following the injunction orders made by the UPC LD Mannheim and the Munich I Regional Court. This included the various UK AASI hearings, disclosure applications, and jurisdiction challenge ([2025] EWHC 3334 (Pat)).
Acer/Asustek/Hisense v. Nokia: ITU-T RAND. Worked on the jurisdiction and interim licence hearing and judgment ([2025] EWHC 3331 (Pat)).
Warner Bros and Paramount v. Nokia: ITU-T RAND. Worked on all aspects of this dispute during the above period, including on a pre-issue hearing (Paramount only; [2025] EWHC 3083 (Pat)).
TP-Link v. Huawei: IEEE RAND. Worked on the interim licence hearing and judgment ([2026] EWHC 179 (Pat)).
Samsung v. ZTE: ETSI FRAND. Worked on the FRAND trial and judgment ([2026] EWHC 999 (Pat)).
Dheemanth has also worked on non-(F)RAND matters during his time as a judicial assistant, having assisted in preparing the judgment in Getty Images v. Stability AI [2025] EWHC 2863 (Ch), and having worked on trial and judgment in Regeneron v. Alvotech [2025] EWHC 3050 (Pat) and CMCs and application hearings in Roadget v. Whaleco, Parsons v. Convatec, and Dr Reddy’s v. Boehringer Ingelheim (Empagliflozin).

(Instructed) AstraZeneca v. Generics (UK) & Ors [2025] EWCA Civ 924 – further applications for interim injunctive relief in the dapagliflozin litigation; holdover injunctions.
(Instructed) Generics (UK) & Ors v. AstraZeneca[2025] EWCA Civ 903 – revocation proceedings concerning dapagliflozin for treating diabetes; plausibility and technical contribution.
Alexion v. Amgen & Samsung Bioepis [2025] EWHC 1240 (Pat) – infringement and invalidity proceedings concerning a patent covering eculizumab, a biologic treatment for paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria; including argument on ‘non-technical’ issues of judicial estoppel, approbation and reprobation, and abuse of process.
Accord v. Novartis (ongoing) – valsartan / sacubitril combination therapy for heart failure; plausibility, collocation, and SPC issues.
Merck Serono v. Comptroller-General [2025] EWCA Civ 45 – appeal from decision refusing an SPC application for medicinal product ‘mavenclad’ (a second medical use of cladribine) for the treatment of highly active relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis; invited the Court of Appeal to invoke its post-Brexit powers and depart from the CJEU decision in Santen.
Halozyme v. Comptroller-General [2024] EWHC 3202 (Pat) – appeal from UKIPO decision refusing two SPC applications for combination products of recombinant human hyaluronidase with trastuzumab or rituximab.
Celltrion v. Novartis and Genentech [2025] EWHC 174 (Pat) – infringement and invalidity proceedings concerning a patent covering a particular formulation of the antibody omalizumab, a highly successful biologic asthma treatment; allegation of anticipation of an equivalent.
